Surface Detail

Just finished latest Culture book of Iain Banks – “Surface Detail”. It was a nice trip. It’s one of those classic Culture novels featuring proper spacebattles with level eight tech, complex conspiracy, new and obscure–í¬†civilizations and even interesting idea of virtuality. One of the rare books which you don’t want to end. I liked its multilayered beginning, layers of which are of course connecting and merging together in book’s climax causing nice ending. If you’re fan of Culture series, grab it!

/me slaps Vondur around with a combat-hungry eccentric Abominator Class General Offensive Unit.

Finished it last week myself, good read yeah, was better than Matter. Some great Ship action, Falling Outside The Normal Moral Constraints rocks. :)

ye, that’s nice ship. i wish i travel with it in the galaxy for several hundred years, seeking adventures :)

Boo! So if I was gonna start reading Banks, where is the best place to start? Btw, hi there Mr. Russian!

  4. Vondur Says:

Hallo, Pauk! Well.. hard to tell because Banks has two lines of books. One is fiction, another is science fiction. From fiction I’d start from his very first book Wasp Factory. And from sc-fi – first Culture novel – Consider Phlebas. From these two you’ll get the idea what to expect from him and continue research or not ;)
