General gaming

Of course I’ve bought and finished playing Orange Box. And I’m once again impressed by what Valve did. Episode 2 turned to be no less fun to play than the rest of the HL2. Portal is damn addictive game, yet atmospheric. This is not what I was expecting from some puzzle like game. I hope there will be more Portal levels to play in the future. One downpoint of all this new stuff is that it is painfully short. I want more! Team Fortress 2 is as fun as good old Quakeworld, every class has its own cool features. And I’m yet to discover full potential of the classes. Once again Valve proved to be one of the best game developers out there and they know what kind of fun to deliver. They also added nice Community feature to Steam, so you can communicate with fellow geeks like me and play and chat together. Valve are gods indeed!

I didn’t write about my WoW achievements for quite some time. Well, the PVE progress is slowly but steady there. I’ve got full T4 set by now, our guild have started doing evil Serpentshrine Cavern raid instance. We’re learning new bosses and having general WoW fun. Everyone in the game’s awaiting for the new 2.3 patch which will feature new 10 man instance Zul’aman, and a lot of new other content. So WoW addiction still exists and I’m not sure when it will end ;)

Heavy metal rock

Just got two new CDs from Peaceville: Darkthrone – “F.O.A.D.” is the new album of this norwegian legend. This time they decided to switch to the simple heavy rock of the 80s. And this is their ultimatum. The album name deciphers as “Fuck off and die” that’s Darkthrone’s new attitude now. Either accept it or just fuck off. Well, seems I’ve accepted it because I liked the album. The good thing is that I didn’t expect anything from this album, neither it to be like something old, or something fresh and interesting. Hence it didn’t destroy my expectations, I just accepted it as it is and enjoying it. There’s humour all over it, from the track names to the pictures in the booklet. Also, the amusing thing is new Darkthrone’s video for the track “Canadian Metal“. It’s just the black screen during entire song. Now that’s the move! :) So, if you’re Darkthrone fan you’ll buy it, if not – just F.O.A.D. then.

Second CD is by the japanese all-female metal act Gallhammer with the CD “Ill Innocence“. For some weirdest reason I got hooked by the samples that I heard from the Peaceville’s ad compain. Dunno, but these girls produce something if not good sounding but sincere and somehow attractive. This is quite various music, from the slow doomy and psychedelic tracks to something faster like the aforementioned Darkthrone album. Listen to the samples, watch the video and judge for yourself if you like it or not.

Two bullets from Nordvargr

Received another two new albums by the noizmachine Nordvargr. Both are released on the new and rather progressive Russian label Eternal Pride. First one is Toroidh“The Final testament”. This, as you might have guessed, is martial music. This release is quite a lot quieter and more folk oriented than “Sergevittring”. There’s alot of calm guitar and much quieter industrial/ambient music than on that other one. Still, album is good and brings what it’s intented – atmosphere of the WWII. If you’re gathering Toroidh releases, don’t miss this one.

Second one is black metal project Vargr with the album “Wehrmacht Satanas”. Well I’ve bought it just for the sake of collecting Nordvargr releases. The music is raw blasphemous black metal, enough said… The CD design is on the edge of jest. It’s all black/white colored and there’s funny “True Black Necronoise Metal” sentence. Pistols and knuckledusters are all over and corpsepainted face of “kamrat” Nordvargr is also presented there. This release looks like some joke from the dark ambient master. It looks like he made it just for the sake of making something different from his usual stuff and because he loves blackmetal in general.
